Learn How to Make Body Butter, using all natural ingredients, for the ultimate soft skin secret.
Out of all the homemade beauty products I make, body butter and lotion are my all time favorite. My skin is pretty dry all year long, so I get the most use out of my lotions.
Do you have dry skin?
If you do, then you need to give this recipe a try! I slather on my body butter every time I get out of the shower. It makes me feel so revived and moisturized. Might I add, my skin stays feeling like this all day long.
What usually happens when you use a store bought lotion on your skin, by the early afternoon, your skin feels dry once again. Well, not with my homemade body butter. One application and you will be good to go for the rest of the day.
You can use any essential oil you want. Add your favorite or mix it up by adding two different essential oils. For this recipe, I used grapefruit. I love citrus essential oils due to their energizing properties. Something about those smells makes me want to jump out of the bed in the morning and get my day started on a good note.
If you’re looking for a, ‘before bed’ body butter, I recommend using lavender essential oil. Mmm, just by talking about it makes me feel so calm and serene. Take a look at my Homemade Lavender and Orange Lotion Bars. These are great for sticking in your purse for on the go assess.

This recipe fills one wide mouth half pint mason jar. If you are making this grapefruit body butter to give out as gifts or simply just want to make more for yourself, you can double the recipe.
At the very end, I included a printable recipe just for you! And because I love to help my readers, I made printable labels too. The first sheet is for large mouth jars and the second is for regular mouth jars.
I often get asked where the ingredients from this recipe can be purchased, so I have included links below to the products I fully recommend.
1 cup Shea Butter
1/2 cup Unrefined Coconut Oil
1/4 cup Sweet Almond Oil
30 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil
In a double broiler add the shea butter, coconut oil, and almond oil. I like to use a small sized sauce pan within a larger sauce pan. Add a small amount of water into your larger pan. Just enough so the top pan is able to float.
On medium heat, wait until the ingredients melt into a liquid form.
Add 30 drops of grapefruit essential oil and mix.
Transfer your mixture into a bowl and wait for it to slightly solidify. This will take about thirty minutes to an hour.
Whip the ingredients for a few minutes. While this is mixing add the pink colorant. I used 3 drops to get a pinkish orange color. Add one drop at a time until you get the color that you desire.
NOTE: You want the ingredients to have the perfect consistency in order to whip and get a body butter like texture. If the mixture is too liquidy, you’ll get a lotion or if your mixture is too hard the body butter will become very clumpy. Just eye it out and refer to my picture. You can always reheat again if you’re not satisfied with the texture.
Scoop the grapefruit body butter into the mason jar, print your FREE labels, and your all set!
Always remember to take precaution when making your own beauty products. See my medical disclaimer for details.
I often hear people complain about homemade beauty products being too greasy. Honestly, the greasiness is what makes your skin so soft and smooth. My recipe will be greasy right when you rub it on your skin, but within five to ten minutes, the grease goes away.
Take your shower, use the body butter, put your clothes on, do your hair, and you will be smelling AND looking good in a matter of minutes!
To receive your printable labels insert your information in the box below and you will be on your way to downloading the sheets.
